Knowing better - How improving metacognition improves well-being

Many older people without a medical diagnosis suffer in their daily lives and worry about their memory, perhaps due to widespread stereotypes rather than a factual impairment. On the other hand, this population may show an age-related decrease in working memory performance. The key issue is the ability to judge their memory difficulties. The scientific study of metacognition can help figure this out. This project aims to (1) highlight how metacognition can be modified by interventions on memory, (2) test the advantages of three potentially complementary interventions on memory complaints by evaluating their advantages on cognitive functioning, metacognition, quality of life and self-esteem.
